Sunday, February 16 from 1:00-3:00p.m.
In 2003 General Garner was selected to lead the post-war reconstruction efforts in Iraq. General Garner was to develop and implement plans to assist the Iraqis in developing governance and reconstructing the country once Saddam Hussein was deposed. General Garner is currently an active defense and energy industry consultant and travels to the Middle East and the Kurdish region of Iraq several times a year.
Topics we’ll be discussing are:
• Understanding the Kurdistan region of Iraq
• Discussion of how the Kurds fit into the complex religious, political, ethnic and tribal makeup of Iraq and the Middle East
• How the influence of the major Middle East powers including Iran and the effect of the Kurdish region
• The strategic and political importance of Kurdistan to US interests in the region
• Q & A
