Universal Studios has announced that their iconic JAWS ride will take its final voyage on January 2, 2012 after a 21-year run at the park.

An official statement from Universal Studios states that JAWS will close in order to "make room for an exciting new attraction".

JAWS was one of the original attractions that opened with Universal Studios back in 1990 alongside the Kongfrontation and Earthquake: The Big One rides.

JAWS closed for an extensive period back in 2004 after hurricanes struck Central Florida.  Due to the rising costs of petroleum resulting from the hurricanes, Universal decided to close JAWS in order to save costs.  The ride reopened in December 2005, but was listed as a "seasonal" ride only open on busier park days until numerous guest complaints caused Universal to reopen it permanently in February 2007.

The ride was refurbished numerous times following it's reopening in 2007 with improvements made as recently at this year.  We'll keep you updated as details develop regarding this exciting, new attraction replacing JAWS at Universal Studios.
