With a unique rugged and dirty sound, G-Love and Special Sauce have perfected what they like to call trash can blues.  Their raw off the cuff sound and funky lyrics and commitment to creating great music make every performance memorable. Not only is G-Love a man of many talents but he's also got sauce and a knack for creating original art.  You can purchase an original piece from your favorite trash can blues crooner at one of their shows or online. When we heard that G-Love and Special Sauce were going to be swinging into Orlando this month we jumped at the opportunity to chat with G-Love himself and find out what makes the Special Sauce so special. You can see G-Love and Special Sauce LIVE at The Social on April 7th. GET YOUR TICKETS HERE

You've been performing for over 20 years.  What inspires you to create new music?

G-Love: Just Life.  I write about everything.  The simple things, everyday things to heavier things that are happening to me or around the world.  As a songwriter you have to keep your ind and your ears and your eyes and your heart open to the everyday experiences.

How do you surpass any creative roadblocks?

I'm at a place where I like to be natural and unforced.  I usually write down or record an idea and then come back to it later when I have time to piece it all together.  I like it to be creative first and then you make a song and you let it all out.  Then you can spend weeks or months or years just honing in on that song.

Are you excited to have Jimmy Jazz back in the band?

We have such a chemistry and Jim and I have always been such great friends.  We write a lot together and have a very unique way of communicating musically on a spiritual intuitive level   It's great to have that chemistry back and we've just been really enjoying playing together.

Your latest Album: Love Saves The Day.  What inspired the title?

It was just one of those song ideas that I jotted down but I just kept thinking about it for months.  I was going through a really bad time because I had broken up with my fiance. It was very painful bunch of years and I kept thinking that love saves the day.  Just like the world as well, the world is hurting and people are hurting.  It's a big phrase but at the same time it's personal so I thought it had a lot of power to it. I showed it to Jim and he really liked it and actually really pushed it and felt that it was the whole basis of the record.

You made the decision to record this album LIVE giving it a more rugged feel.  What made you decide to do that?

We have always been our best when we recorded live and the music that has inspired us has been old jazz recordings or old blues recordings and what better way to get the sound that we like than doing it the way it was done back in the day.  When all three of us are in a room together then that means that everyone's performance is dependent upon everyone else's performance. We work together as a team and we'll do it until we get it right and with that notion it makes everyone play better and gel better and have better chemistry together.  There's a lot of power in that.

You collaborated with many amazing artists on: Love Saves The Day.  Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

That's what we've been talking to Donovan Frankenrighter about right now is possibly doing an acoustic record together this spring.  It's been one of the wonderful parts of my career is to be able to share the stage with so many legendary singers and musicians.  Anyone from Dr. John, Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, Run DMC, Cypress Hill. From the great blues legends to the hip hop legends.  That's been such a cool thing for me is to get to share stories and share music.

What is your favorite thing about the city of Orlando?

Not Disney World.  I don't know if it's still there but their use to be a little bar right next to the social.  I think it was called spy bar with the cameras everywhere and over the bar they have the tv screens so people can watch what everyone else is doing and I met this girl and we were making out all over the place and we came out and everyone started clapping.

What is the first album you ever bought for yourself?

I don't know what the first one was but I know what one of the most important ones was and definitely one of the first.  I think it was RUN DMC King of Rock.
